POEMS and ONE-LINERS

“A LIFETIME AGO”

—by Becky Conrad ©

A lifetime ago,
I became your child.
You nurtured me and held me,
and often made me smile.

 As I grew up,
in the wonder of life’s world,
I never imagined,
you would leave me,
to deal with my own discord.

 I made mistakes,
similar to your own,
I tried to do right,
so you would welcome me back in the fold.

I saw you age before my eyes,
something I did not want,
because I too was aging,
and our time was dwindling down,
I only wanted to tell you,
how much you meant to me,
remembering a lifetime ago,
when I was on your knee.

When finally your days were spent,
in wonder, confusion and strife,
your old broken body carried you,
on your last journey of life.

 Your mind was recalling days,
days of yesteryear,
time spent in other’s gentle loving care.

 Your mind was fading,
but your smile showed the way,
days wondering and hoping,
with days of yesterday.

Yet through that time and space,
of decisions made in despair,
you somehow let me know,
soft as a butterfly,
you were still there.

 I often wondered afterwards,
through the days and nights,
if I was worthy of your love,
of a love shining bright.

 But on your last goodbye,
as I held you by my side,
the memories surrounded me,
of cheery smiles and days gone by.

 You are gone now,
the memories linger on,
good times and silly times,
days of laughter and yet despair,
days spent reflecting in the looking glass,
the pictures on the wall,
days spent in memory,
my life can tell it all.

 Thank you, Mom.

“Cassidy - A very special little girl”

—by Becky Conrad ©

This child of beauty, a beauty so rare.
This child of God, with special parents who deeply care.

Your parents were chosen in an unspoken pact,
to give you life regardless of strife.

A short time has passed in your very young life,
yet you have struggled and fought,

a determined little lass.

This journey you are on destiny knows no bounds.
When your eyes sparkle and your smile turns into a frown,
your parents are there to guide you,
encourage you and not let you down.

 Your struggles and accomplishments,
they hold so very dear.
In a world  full of wonder and also disdain,
your bright cheery smile and twinkling eyes,

gives them courage again and again.

Your purpose is beyond our comprehension,
with guidance and love from near and afar,
Your Lord holds you close,
He is always near, never far.

Like the setting of the sun at the end of each day,
may you know in many hearts,
you are only a prayer away.

 Your purpose has been given,
beyond our understanding,
the course of your life,
rests in His abundance, not withstanding.

“A CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION FOR THOSE WE LOVE AND HOLD DEAR TO OUR HEARTS”

—by Becky Conrad ©

Once upon a time,
in the early morning light,
I gazed upon your face,
glowing with God’s love so bright.

My journey as a child,
was full of mystery and wonder,
a journey you took with me,
your love never to put asunder.

With apprehension at times,
directing, coaching, rules and regulations,
a time spent making choices,
choices I sometimes plundered.

You walked by my side,
sharing things precious and dear,
a journey well spent, with each passing year.

Family came first,
sacrificing your all,
your giving knew no bounds,
your love you showed all around.

Season after season,
after the rose died in the winter,
its petals had to fall,
but your stalwartly stance,
gave springtime its chance,
to renew in your missions,
to teach and to dance.

Your inspiration gave me new growth,
and more lessons to learn,
Yet your patience and love,
carried me through many days of doubt and apprehension.

Days have gone by,
weeks have turned into months,
yet all that you shared and taught me,
still gives me pause to reflect,
of years gone by, by showing so much respect.

Once upon a time,
I could not imagine,
a time when you were not here for me,
yet when I pause and remember you,
you are still here within me.

You taught us God’s word,
on your journey in life,
You lived His word,
regardless of strife.

You let us choose which path to take,
and by living your life in God’s guiding light,
Your belief in Him,
He did not forsake.

“The Puppet”

—by Becky Conrad ©

You pulled my strings,
and made me dance,
a dance that you called love.
With strings attached,
your control ran deep,
so deep at times,
I could not speak.

You hid your ways,
others could not see,
your control over me,
was beyond comprehension,
then one day I spoke,
with a voice loud and clear,
a voice others heard,
marred with disdain and dissension.

Your look told me, "Stay,"
but I chose my escape,
leaving you speechless,
not believing my wake.

I ran to the help,
I knew it was there,
I ran to escape,
no more did you care.

At last I breathed,
a sigh of relief,
my body and mind,
my soul was to keep.

The strings are gone now,
in another time and place,
released and free,
from the bonds of the strings,
no more a puppet to be.

“Today We Celebrate”

—by Becky Conrad ©

Today we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ

Today we celebrate the One who gave us life.

Laughter, joy, sharing and caring,

A day of family, celebrating need not be wearing.

Peace on earth is in our hearts,

it can only begin with me.

Peace on earth, is within each one of us,

with the tenderness and love of Thee.

He can sustain us, beyond our understanding,

He can lift us up, that our hearts can soar,

beyond the stars, the heavens, beyond time.

We need not want for more.

With each new sunset, and each new dawn,

if given the privilege, peace on earth within, can be mine.

So give a hug and a warm smile,

Wrap His love around you.

Savor the memories of days gone by,

Revere in the future of loved ones nearby.

Celebrate today!

It is a free gift of priceless treasure,

An eternal gift to cherish beyond measure.

“To the Honorable, Retired Judge
William J. Martin”

—by Becky Conrad ©

Years ago when you started your journey,
of trials and tribulations,
it had to have been with anxiety and apprehension.
Yet, with your stalwartly demeanor,
and the determination to persevere,
the mountain of pride you had in your job,
could only continue onward with your God ever near.

He lifted you up, when the burdens were heavy,
many decisions to make,
with disdain at times by your side.
To the many that passed through the doors of your court,
some won their battles,
others faced their remorse.

Bar none at times you were the one,
that decided their fate.
They had to answer,
for wrongs they had done,
month after month,
year after year,
the battles raged on.

The years totaled many,
with a mountain of pride,
you continued your journey,
putting those you loved and cared for,
at different times, aside.

During the journey at times,
many decisions were many,
their weight heavily on your mind,
filling your days and nights
with anxiety and apprehension,
decisions made for all of time.

You sometimes held their fate,
according to rules and regulations,
Man’s laws taught you one thing,
God’s laws taught you another.

Decisions, decisions, in the waning of day’s light,
decisions, decisions, the weight on your shoulders,
had to have been an arduous plight.

Now this long journey has ended,
and a job well done,
your journey has been blessed,
to continue on.

May you reflect on the years past,
with pride and determination,
and be remembered,
as one who gave, without reservation.

—by Eileen Rohrer

May the sun rise up to meet you,
with the dawn of each new day.
May the warm gentle breezes
touch lightly upon your face
and give you peace and serenity
in the unknown days ahead.
May your days be filled with joy,
peace, and laughter, by the
love of those you care so deeply for,
and may you walk in the days ahead,
 side by side, wrapped in
God’s awesome love.
