Category: Nonfiction

Judge: 45

Judge’s Commentary:

What did you like best about this book?

If someone has read the first book (as I did), she would wish for more, and want to know how Ms. Conrad did on her own, how she grew, how she dealt with the inevitable problems she faced, as only one can expect from an abusive situation. So many women can relate to the topic (me included), and readers will be relieved following her travails that there is real hope, even light coming out of the dark, as the title affirms. Realistically we readers know the author would have a difficult time on her own, and that she’d be haunted by Bob and we’d see him again. We’re relieved she finds a little peace, and a new, trustworthy, devoted mate.

Ms. Conrad’s voice is consistent throughout and her dialogue is authentic. A natural writer obviously, with continued practice she will get better and better. No doubt the author found her writing very cathartic during those years of horror and beyond.

The title is a good one.

Becky, I thought your sequel was excellent. You came out of the darkness and proved you could get a better life. It took a lot of hard work, and it was a very hard road to travel, but you did it. Your sequel was inspiring, full of laughter and tears, and I was so thrilled for you in the end! You are a good writer and I am looking forward to your next book! Keep writing. You do inspire others so much. S.L.

Becky writes to make all of us feel that there is a new day right around the corner, all you have to do is make that turn. What a wonderful and uplifting story of her life. I felt as if I was with her along that long journey. That her pets were my pets and that her salvation was mine. Keep up the faith and keep writing.

Becky Conrad's Heart

It is true, each of us have our own personal story about our journey through life. There are some willing to take that very courageous step to share their story in print. I thought A BETTER DAY DAWNING was far more than a story ... I believe it is Becky Conrad's heart. With each of life's injustices and lessons, the human spirit refused to suffer defeat but continued in search of that ... better day dawning!

Great Reading

A new day and a new life. A safer one. I find it very up lifting, after what she went through in her earlier years. I know this wonderful lady, and she is and always will be my closest friend. I was very elated to read the poems her husband wrote, what a compassionate man. I know him also, but I didn't know his inner being. I always knew he was a great guy. I also know that their lives together are precious. Great job my friend....Shar
